Recap of the Winter Open Main Event and Winter Cup Closed Qualifiers - APAC RLCS

Winter Open Main Event

The first Main Event of the Winter Split started off with a bang. Lots of upsets and finally the end of Elevate's dominance, but first let us look at the group stage.

In terms of teams coming out of the group stage, only one team was a surprise i.e. Rezi's Minions, who pulled out a 3-0 sweep over Eluva, who was expected to be the third team coming out of their group.

So group A was Elevate, Decimate Gaming, Rezi's Minions, with Eluva getting eliminated.

Group B was dominated by Lycus Empire, followed by Lotus Gaming who put up a good fight, and Brokoli was the last team to qualify out of this group. Reseda Esports were eliminated after getting swept thrice.

Group C was a fairly standard affair with Gaimin Gladiators at the top, followed by UHUH, with Team GanDerS rounding off the teams that qualified. AmongZ was the team that got eliminated.

Group D as well looked pretty standard with Detonator, Nimmt55, and Vainshoes rounding off the top 3 teams that qualified for the playoff stage. Tunamayo Gaming got eliminated in a swift fashion with three sweeps against them.

With the playoffs stage starting on day 2, Round 1 already had a massive upset with Rezi's Minions pulling a 3-0 sweep over UHUH (bruh). The rest of the games went ahead as usual. Lotus Gaming had a close game against Vainshoes but came out on top in the end with a 3-2 score. Decimate Gaming was able to handle Team GanDerS comfortably with a 3-0 scoreline, with Nimmt55 sweeping Brokoli as well to qualify for round 2.

Elevate qualified for the Semi-Finals with a 4-0 win over Lotus Gaming. Detonator matched up against them with a 4-0 win over Rezi's Minions. The final 2 contenders for the Semi-Finals spot were Lycus Empire with a 4-2 victory over Decimate Gaming and Gaimin Gladiators with a 4-1 victory over Nimmt55.

Detonator pulled off the second big upset of the day and beat Elevate in a 4-2 fashion, with each game being a 1-goal affair, thus taking their place in the Grand Finals. Gaimin Gladiators was the second team to reach the Grand Finals after beating Lycus Empire fairly comfortably with a scoreline of 4-0.

The Grand Finals was extremely close with both the teams putting in a tough fight for the title, but in the end, Detonator came out on top as the new champions of APAC with a match score of 4-3.
